Chad and Leah Getchel , owners of Good Groceries Mobile Diner food truck, are gearing up to open their debut brick-and-mortar restaurant at 585 Cooper St in Midtown , taking over the former home of Mo’Bay Beignet .

Drawing from their extensive culinary backgrounds—Chad’s nine-year tenure as Chef de Cuisine at River Oaks Restaurant and Leah’s corporate catering experience spanning over 11 years—the husband-and-wife duo brings a wealth of expertise to their new venture.

Since its launch in 2020, the Getchels’ food truck has been a staple in town, dishing out delicious homemade fare such as barbecue duck nachos and duck sausage with meat sourced from Maple Leaf Farms. But their menu has evolved beyond meat to include vegetarian options, too, like Leah’s popular crispy tofu sandwich on gluten-free bread.

According to The Daily Memphian , the Good Groceries Midtown location will initially operate as a grab-and-go establishment, offering a variety of pizzas, sandwiches, salads, soups, and take-and-bake casseroles. Chad has ambitious plans to introduce homemade ice cream flavors like buttered popcorn and peanut butter and jelly once the pair secures additional personnel and equipment, including an ice cream machine.

Beyond serving made-from-scratch delights, the Getchels aim to cultivate a vibrant community hub in their new space, hosting diverse events such as Kosher wine tastings, crochet classes, and Bible studies. However, they face a hurdle—the Cooper St space lacks a full kitchen, limiting their capabilities. To overcome this challenge, they’ve launched a crowdfunding campaign to finance necessary upgrades.

With an expected opening in May 2024, Midtown will soon welcome Good Groceries’ first brick-and-mortar restaurant. In the meantime, interested parties can donate to the Getchels’ crowdfunding campaign to show support.
