It would have been spit-out-your-drink unfathomable four years ago – and laughable only two before now.

There was doubt even before Wednesday night, when Zach Edey was drafted at No. 9 overall to the Memphis Grizzlies, sneaking into the top-14 to become Purdue's second lottery product since coach Matt Painter took over the team in 2005.

He had been projected as low as the mid-20s by many major outlets the day of the 2024 NBA Draft.

ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the Grizzlies were determined to draft a center, and saw Edey as the best on the board.

Edey's statistics improved every year he was at Purdue, culminating in back-to-back National Player of the Year awards in his junior and senior seasons, and the 7-foot-4 marvel graduated from Purdue as the highest scoring and rebounding player in program history.
