GloRilla Quickly Rises To The Top
From the church pews to the Hip-Hop stage, GloRilla’s journey is a testament to resilience.
Born Gloria Hallelujah Woods, AFROTECH™ previously reported that the rapper’s musical roots were planted in the church, a common starting point for many Black artists.
Raised in a religious family, the Memphis native’s first musical passion was singing. However, when life threw her a curveball in the form of losing her voice, she didn’t give up.
Instead, she discovered a new love for rap and released her first mixtape under her original stage name, Big Glo.
Conversations about her “wild and crazy” childhood would land her the stage name the world knows her as today, serving as the moniker behind the song that put her on the map — “F.N.F (Let’s Go),” with Hitkidd.
Since the song’s 2022 release, GloRilla has seen rising success, leading her to sign with rap-artist-turned-music-executive Yo Gotti’s Collective Music Group (CMG).
Since signing with Yo Gotti, GloRilla has gone on to make other hit songs like “Tomorrow 2” with Cardi B, “Wanna Be” with Megan Thee Stallion, and “Yeah Glo!”
GloRilla Is Leveling Up Her Career And Her Net Worth
Her collaborative efforts with Yo Gotti go beyond producing music.
The CMG label owner has served as a mentor, offering financial advice to help GloRilla remain financially astute. According to a previous AFROTECH™ report, the 24-year-old admitted that Yo Gotti urged her to hire an accountant.
“My first year, I blew up; this was before I got an accountant. I was just spending money, and I’m like, ‘Okay, I’m getting it. I’m making it, but I’m spending it too,’” she recalled during an episode of “The Shop” podcast. “So, like, I really wasn’t just in tune… So, Gotti had got me an accountant.”
Yo Gotti’s advice stems from his dedication to being financially astute and in tune with building his net worth. In an interview on the “Earn Your Leisure” podcast, he doubled down on why it is essential for an accountant to secure the bag and maintain it.
“One of the things I do, we make sure that first time we give you a dollar, we give you money, make sure you’re doing this, and we even advise certain things, ‘Make sure you get you a CPA,’” he said during an interview with podcast “Earn Your Leisure.” “I’m givin’ you the information, like, ‘Yo, you need this’ and ‘This why,’ and I’m giving them examples. ‘This is what happened to me. This what happens, so make sure this don’t happen to you.’”
Passing on financial advice to artists like GloRilla is critical to her success as she continues rising to the top. She has an estimated net worth of $2 million, per Celebrity Net Worth.
Impact Beyond Music
When GloRilla is not in the booth making hits, she builds her brand deal portfolio with partners like Sprite and Tommy Hilfiger.
According to a report from Women’s Wear Daily, her love for Tommy Hilfiger comes from her childhood admiration of the late singer Aaliyah.
“I just love the whole brand. I’ve been loving it since I was a kid when I saw Aaliyah do it, and it feels great that I can find a home in fashion,” she told the publication.
Although GloRilla is building her wealth, she is also paying it forward.
In November 2023, the rapper returned to her former middle school, Westside Middle School, to donate $20,000 to the school’s fine arts program.
“I was super excited to come back to my hood,” GloRilla said, per Memphis Commercial Appeal. “Everybody knows I’m a Westside baby. I put on for Westside still to this day. I never had nobody when I was young and in this school ever come give back. Since I have it and I’m able to, I wanted to come and give back.”
