MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphians are celebrating the Fourth of July with food, drinks, and most importantly, togetherness.

Preparations underway for Liberty Park 4th of July firework show

“Let’s take our holiday and put a smile on someone’s face that’s less fortunate,” said Jamarquis Donald. He and his wife set up a grill to give away food to homeless people in the area.

“So far, we have fed about 85 people,” said Taquona Donald. “They have come back for seconds and are so overwhelmed that we poured out to them. They love the burgers. My husband is the cook on the grill, and he did his thing.”

But we couldn’t find the elusive rack of ribs until we found Greg Shaw– better known as the 901 Slab King.

“I got about 21 [ribs] on here. I got about 30 on the other one, about 50 slabs altogether,” said Shaw. He is cooking ribs for his family and friends to celebrate the holiday.

But if you can’t take the heat in the kitchen, the President of Grind City Brewing Company Hopper Seely says to come join them outside for free fun.

“We’ll be having food trucks all day today. We have moon bounces for the kids. We’ll have sparklers, beer, and some non-alcoholic drinks for kids,” said Seely.

At 6 p.m., there will be live music, followed by fireworks at 9 p.m.

“It’s a celebration of the idea, right? We are all here to make ourselves better,” Seely said. “We all want to build our neighborhoods and communities. It’s the implementation of that day on this day, but if I could do fireworks every day I probably would.”
