MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Southwest Tennessee Community College has announced that they have identified a cyber incident that has impacted its network systems.

They say that this issue extends beyond the server problem initially reported to the college on July 3.

In a statement from the school, the college says they are actively working with computer forensics experts to “thoroughly investigate the incident to determine its full scope” and “restore full functionality to the computer system as soon as possible.”

“We are deeply committed to protecting important information our students and employees entrust to us,” Tracy D. Hall, president of Southwest Tennessee Community College said. “Unfortunately, in the current digital landscape, cybercriminal incidents are increasingly prevalent and pose considerable risks. Our team responded promptly to secure our systems and are diligently working to restore our online services and strengthen our defenses. We appreciate the cooperation and patience of our students, faculty and staff as we navigate this circumstance.”

Campus child care centers on the Macon Cove and Union Avenue campuses will remain open during normal business hours.

In the statement, the College said it is “coordinating efforts with the Tennessee Board of Regents and appropriate state officials”.

Updates will be provided about any potential impacts to students and employees through the College’s official channels.
