MEMPHIS, Tenn. — People living in one East Memphis neighborhood are on high alert after a mysterious structure fire.

Fire crews spent several hours on the scene ensuring the blaze was fully extinguished.

The Memphis Fire Department says a shed on the property was on fire.

“There was an explosion. It wasn’t like a little fire,” a neighbor Romeo Velasco said. “In a matter of two, three seconds, the whole backyard there lit up.”

Thankfully, there were no reported injuries.

Romeo Velasco and his father live near the home and say that no one lives on the property.

However, they’ve seen someone hanging out around the home.

“He comes in the night and in the morning he goes,” Velasco said.

People living on the street say the fire comes after months of alleged criminal activity on this street.

“He robbed us three other times,” Velasco said. “He’s taken stuff out of the van. He’s taken our dog. He’s come in here. He was in their backyard.”

The Memphis Fire Department crews responded to the fire around 1:36 a.m. They say the cause of it is still under investigation.
