Chart-topping Memphis rapper Moneybagg Yo is expanding his local restaurant business and opening a second location of his Cache 42 eatery Downtown.

The new Cache 42 is set to open at 97 N. Main St. The commercial space will occupy part of the ground floor of the Riverview Apartments on Main, between Jefferson and Adams avenues.

The location has been under renovation since late May. Cache 42 operations manager Jason Spicer posted a photo to his Instagram on May 31, showing a buildout of the space, formerly occupied by Quintessential Sweets.

The Downtown Cache 42 will serve as an “express” version of the original restaurant offering a similar, if scaled-down menu, and a smaller footprint.

There’s no firm date on when the second Cache 42 will open, though the restaurant is expected to begin operations at some point later this summer or early fall.

The first Cache 42, located at 4202 Hacks Cross Road, opened in April 2023. The restaurant offers an “urban upscale dining experience,” as well as a separate bar and lounge.

RAPPERS FROM MEMPHIS:What rappers grew up in Memphis? From GloRilla to Yo Gotti, it's a who's who of hip-hop stars

Moneybagg Yo — the 32-year-old South Memphis native and multi-platinum artist signed to Yo Gotti’s CMG record label — has become one of the biggest stars in Memphis music in recent years.

His 2021 album, “A Gangsta’s Pain,” topped the Billboard charts — twice, in fact. The last Memphis artist to achieve the No. 1 spot was pop superstar Justin Timberlake.

In June 2024, Moneybagg released his much-anticipated follow-up, “Speak Now.” The record finds 'Bagg expanding his sound and reach, including a collaboration with country superstar Morgan Wallen (on "Whiskey Whiskey," which is already a rap chart hit) and R&B great Chris Brown.

"Speak Now" also had an impressive first-week showing on the album charts, debuting at No. 13 on the Billboard 200 and No. 3 on the R&B/hip-hop charts.

Moneybagg Yo is not the only rapper to enter Memphis' restaurant scene. Yo Gotti opened Prive in 2014, while Esco Restaurant and Tapas — the chain is co-owned by 2 Chainz — opened a Memphis location in 2023.
