At around 2 a.m., officers responded to a shooting in the 3300 block of Monticello Circle.

According to Memphis Police, a black Nissan Maxima circled the apartment complex five times before stopping at a parked Nissan Maxima.

An eye-witness told police she saw the victim break into the car and jump inside. She says as the victim jumped out of the vehicle, he was shot.

One person was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Police say the victim’s brother was detained. He left the scene after the shooting but returned once officers arrived.

“It’s getting really unsafe lately. It’s getting scary,” said a resident at the apartment complex.

“The door used to be closed, now you see people in and out. You don’t even know where they are coming from,” she said.

According to the Memphis Data Hub, 28 incidents occurred in the first half of the year in a quarter-mile radius of Monticello Apartments.

“It’s been great it’s just that things have changed lately,” said the woman.
