MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A 19-year-old accused of stealing at least nine vehicles is facing 26 counts of theft and vandalism.

Police said that Devin Stamps was arrested Wednesday after he and two others bailed out of a stolen 2023 Infiniti Q50 in the Whitehaven area.

Members of the Memphis Police Department’s Organized Crime Unit (ATTF), Multi-Agency Gang Unit (MGU), members of Shelby County Sheriff’s BRAT Unit, and Bartlett Police Department’s Crime Suppression Unit took part in the operation.

They said Stamps tried to get rid of a backpack that contained a handgun equipped with machine-gun diversion switch and a vehicle-programmer used in eight auto thefts in the Memphis area and one car theft in Franklin.

MPD said Stamps was known for carjackings and auto thefts. He was also charged with evading arrest, possession of burglary tools, possession of FOB programming equipment, and prohibited weapons.

Police have not said what happened to the other males who jumped out of the Infiniti with Stamps.

According to court records, in January, Stamps was arrested after he bailed out of a stolen Dodge charger with a broken sunroof. Officers said Stamps had a piece of broken tinted glass in his pocket when he was taken into custody.

Stamps was charged with theft of property but the charges were later dismissed.

He is now locked up on a $1,050,000 bond.
