MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A 14-year-old is now in the hospital after being shot overnight in Southwest Memphis, police say.

At 1:20 a.m., officers say they responded to the 400 block of Delta Road regarding a shooting call. A 14-year-old boy was found in the front yard of a home suffering from a gunshot wound in the neck.

MPD says the teen had a two-inch deep cut on his neck and was bleeding with a towel around it. That is when officers began to apply pressure to the injury in an attempt to stop the bleeding.

The victim told his family, “That b*tch shot me” but refused to give any additional information to police.

He was then taken to LeBonheur Children’s Hospital in critical condition.

According to reports, the victim’s sister told officers that her brother left the house around 12:55 a.m. and came back at 1:05 a.m. with a gunshot wound to his neck. She says that is when she called the police.

The victim’s mother, cousin, two brothers, and stepfather were also inside the home when he returned with the gunshot wound, police say. The family told police they did not know where the victim went when he initially left the house.

“He’s riding around these streets throughout the night, folks probably thought he was the wrong person and you know how it goes,” the victim’s brother said. “I was just chilling in the back of my shed, I heard screaming. My little brother ran in the house and said he was shot.”

Officers say they saw cameras that seemed to work on the side of the house, but the family claims they do not work.

While still on the scene, police say they got another call at 2:25 a.m. regarding a home being struck by gunfire up the street on Manson Road. Police say the two incidents appear to be related.

Florene Malone, who lives on Manson Road, says she heard a bullet go through her house. She says she had just left the room minutes before the bullet entered.

“I was right there by the window I went to bed and in two or three minutes that’s when I heard shots,” Malone said. “It sounded like windows breaking. I thought they broke my window, but it was that vase in my room, it hit that vase.”

While WREG crews were on the scene speaking with Malone, another active police scene was happening just a few houses down from the overnight shooting.

Malone says she now wants to relocate because of the constant violence.

“I feel like the police should come up and down the street around here because so much crime is going on plus these guys are over here all day every day,” Malone said. “I don’t like it, I want to move.”

This is still an ongoing investigation. Police say the Felony Response Unit is investigating the incident, and a DCS referral has been made.
