Man allegedly caught with a stolen gun on Beale Street

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man was arrested after police say he was caught on Beale Street with a stolen AR-15 early Saturday morning.

Officers with the Entertainment District Unit Compliance Team were flagged down while on routine patrol at approximately 1:27 a.m.

Beale Street security said that a man was armed at the checkpoint entrance of Rufus Thomas for Beale Street.

Officers approached the defendant Demarcus Clemons, who had a gun sticking out of his left waistband and his hands inside his pocket.

As the officer attempted to remove the gun from Clemons’ pants, he allegedly pushed an officer to the ground and began to flee.

During the pursuit, Clemons threw a black Delton AR-15 to the ground at BB King and Gayoso Ave before being taken into custody.

Officers recovered the gun and checked it through NCIC. The gun came back stolen out of Ridgeway Station on January 23.

On January 23, 2023, at approximately 11:10 p.m. officers responded to a burglary/residential at The Enclave Apartments.

When they arrived, the victim said that he left his home around 6:00 p.m. and when he returned later that day around 7:40 p.m., the front door to his home was unlocked.

He told officers that he checked the bedroom and noticed three of his guns were stolen, including a Delton AR-15. He also said that no one had permission to be inside his home.

Clemons has been charged with assault on a first responder, evading arrest and theft of a firearm less than $2,500.

He is scheduled to appear in court on Monday at 9 a.m.
