MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Benjamin Hooks Library on Poplar Avenue closed for the remainder of the day Monday after police responded to what they said appeared to be a suicide inside the building.

A witness at the scene reported on X that they saw a man who had fallen from an upper floor inside the lobby.

Memphis Public Library announced on Facebook Monday afternoon that the library will be closed for the rest of the day – this includes the Library Love tattoo event that was scheduled to take place on Monday.

If you struggle with suicidal thoughts, call 988 or visit the 988 Suicide Crisis Lifeline website for help.
