    Another inmate dies at Shelby County Jail, foul play not suspected by sheriff's office

    A man died at the Shelby County Jail Monday evening, the Shelby County Sheriff's Office confirmed to The Commercial Appeal Tuesday.

    According to SCSO, 49-year-old Jerome Mimes died Monday at the jail, commonly referred to as 201 Poplar. He was pronounced dead at 6:21 p.m. by Memphis Fire Department paramedics.

    "Preliminary information from SCSO detectives suggests no signs of foul play, however the official cause of death has yet to be determined by the medical examiner," SCSO said in an email statement.

    SCSO added that Mimes was being held at 201 Poplar for the Germantown Police Department.

    Additional information was not immediately available.
