MEMPHIS, Tenn. — First responders found a body inside of a vehicle at the MPD’s impound lot, police announced.

The vehicle found at the impound lot has been connected to 20-year-old Jaderius Webb, the Horn Lake Police Department said.

On July 20, first responders made the scene of a vehicle fire at Weaver and Tully. The fire was extinguished and the burned vehicle was taken to the vehicle impound lot at 465 Kline.

An unidentified body was later recovered from inside of the burned vehicle.

On Saturday, the family of Webb reported him missing to the HLPD. That same day, his vehicle was found burned by the Memphis Police Department.

Memphis Police are now investigating this incident as a homicide.

According to the Horn Lake Police Department, DNA testing is being completed to confirm the identity of the remains, which are believed to be Jaderius Webb’s.

First responders say that the cause of death is undetermined at this time, but the investigation is ongoing.

This is not the first time something like this has happened at the impound lot.

Over six years ago, the body of a shooting victim was found in the back of a van at the lot. It had been there for nearly seven weeks.

The victim, Bardomiano Perez Hernandez was found by his friend when he went to retrieve the van.

Former Memphis Police Director Michael Rallings called for major changes to policy after that incident.

Inspections were to be made with cadaver dogs, longer vehicle holds were put in place and new crime scene training was put into effect for officers.

“These changes will ensure that every vehicle is thoroughly checked and we never let an incident like this happen again,” Rallings said.

Hernandez’s family hired an attorney and filed a $300,000 lawsuit against the city, saying the victim could have survived if he was found.

“Our evidence and the testimony of the medical examiner said it was possible for Bardomiano to survive had he received immediate care,” attorney Murray Wells said.

Nine people were disciplined and eight officers were suspended.
