MENDOTA – One statement said by Mendota residents a gazillion times over the years is, “There is nothing for the kids to do during summer vacation.”. Although there are options such as the Mendota Pool, events at Graves-Hume Public Library, sports such as Mendota Area Youth Soccer, Mendota Matadors baseball, and basketball camps, and others, sometimes kids want to switch it up.

America's birthday is Thursday, and Peru's celebrating the night before, with fireworks, food and fun, down by the river. Things get going before dark, with a full slate of food vendors on hand. Undocumented Illinois residents can now get standard driver's licenses
Under provisions of a new law, undocumented residents in Illinois are now eligible to receive four-year driver’s licenses. According to HB 3882, which went into effect July 1, those residents can now receive standard licenses and identification cards instead of the previously issued Temporary Visitor’s Driver’s License.
Passionate Pickleball Players Make Plea For More Courts In Peru
Not only is it the fastest-growing sport in the country, pickleball appears to be the fastest growing sport in the Illinois Valley. Members of the Illinois Valley Pickleball Club filled the city council chambers in Peru Monday night, asking for more courts. Club member Tim Shinnick says while the 4 pickleball courts at Washington Park are the best the area has to offer, many days players are waiting 30 to 45 minutes for a court to open up. He says the low cost solution is to paint lines on the 3 tennis courts that are at Washington Park. This would create 6 new pickleball courts.

Nearly 150 new Illinois ZIP codes added to high-risk lead testing list
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Starting this month, 1-, 2- and 3-year-old children living in nearly 150 communities in Illinois will need their blood screened for lead, a test that wasn't previously required in those parts of the state.The Illinois Department of Public Health announced an expanded list of high-risk ZIP codes this year, including more than a dozen in Cook County, increasing mandatory testing for lead exposure of children who live within those areas.
