Southside Greenway trail reignites efforts to connect South Minneapolis
South Minneapolis is renewing efforts to solidify a bike and pedestrian greenway corridor throughout the various communities and neighborhoods. The proposed Southside Greenway stretches around 6.5 miles, starting near West River Parkway and ending around Portland Avenue. The corridor would connect 12 parks and four schools throughout nine neighborhoods in South Minneapolis.
Talks break down again between Minneapolis Park & Rec Board and workers union
Negotiating teams for the Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board and LIUNA Local 360 are once again at a stalemate following a second attempt to negotiate this week. Over the weekend, LIUNA Local 360, the union representing Park workers who are currently on strike, presented a counteroffer to the Park & Recreation Board’s “last, best, and final'' offer. According to the board, the union’s counteroffer cost $800,000 more overall than what the union had previously proposed.
New initiative to fund arts and culture, promote local communities
The Cultural Districts Arts Fund is a new city initiative to help communities tell their stories through art and increase community collaboration. Seven cultural districts in Minneapolis — 38th Street, Cedar Avenue South, Central Avenue, East Lake Street, Franklin Avenue East, Lowry Avenue North and West Broadway — will receive money to promote the area’s culture through art, events, festivals and more.

Minneapolis tallied another shooting with at least three victims this week, the latest coming late Wednesday downtown on or near Nicollet Mall, officials said. The first of the three incidents occurred Sunday night, when three people were shot, one fatally, in the 2500 block of Central Avenue NE., just north of Lowry Avenue, according to police. Christopher D. Thurmond, 32, of Maplewood, was identified as the person who was killed.

The board unanimously approved three union contracts with transportation, child nutrition, and machinist workers, as well as new contracts for three non-affiliated groups of employees.
