Teen-led initiative brings ballet to underprivileged kids
Aside from both relating to ballet, dance lessons and pointe shoes share another commonality: they’re expensive. That’s where student-run nonprofit Dance Developpe comes in, committed to their mission of breaking down the financial barrier and bringing the magic of ballet to underserved kids. “It’s a financially straining interest...
Bay Area group achieves impressive caking-baking (and donating) milestone
Since signing up in 2011 as a volunteer baker for Cake4Kids, Robin Wolfgram has baked more than 200 cakes. “I think the exact number might be 204,” Wolfram said. As impressive as that number is, though, it is just a small percentage (0.68%, to be exact) of all the cakes Cake4Kids volunteers have baked for Bay Area children since Libby Gruender founded the organization in Sunnyvale in 2010.
The Uncorrupted in San Jose
This hard-driving punk trio hailing from Lodi brings unrelenting energy and attitude to the Caravan. Fans of the genre will rejoice as the three take the stage—er, um, floor—or whatever the Caravan calls the area where bands play. Along for the ride are Fire Drill and Blunt Force Karma. It’s going to be, yet again, an absolute epic of a night in a place known for never-ending epic awesomeness! It’s going to be a night of good drinks and good punk! Ear protection is probably a good idea, as the Uncorrupted will get loud, as they should.

Circus in the Sun: Bella’s outdoors show is a ‘WOW!’
After all the ups and downs my life has had lately, I needed the relief of something familiar. I now live in an unheated room in the Sunset, so even sunny days for the rest of SF mean the marine layer will linger at my place up in the hills. As such, I greatly appreciate the opportunity to head down to Yerba Buena Gardens , sit in the sun, and watch clowns be silly for a crowd of eager kids. (And seeing Boots Riley sit in the audience sure didn’t hurt.)
