MENOMINEE — A Menominee man was arrested Friday morning for allegedly making terroristic threats to the Menominee County Courthouse.

The man, age 29, made the threats at 8:09 a.m. Friday, according to a press release from Sheriff Mike Holmes. Sheriff’s deputies and investigators responded to threats made to shoot Menominee County Courthouse employees, the release states.

The suspect was located and arrested at his residence in the city of Menominee, Holmes said. The man was lodged at the Menominee County Jail on the charge of terroristic threats.

Later Friday, Menominee County Prosecuting Attorney Jeffrey Rogg announced that Dakota B. Davies was the man charged. The offense is a felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison.

According to court documents and information presented in open court, on Fiday, Menominee Police Department (“MPD”) Officers responded to a complaint at the Menominee County Courthouse involving death threats against Courthouse staff shortly after the building opened. Davies made the threats over the phone, during which he expressed his frustration over being ticketed earlier that morning for trespassing at Menominee’s Circle K gas station. He allegedly stated that he was “wronged by Menominee,” that he was “going to shoot the place up,” and that he “was serious.” Davies allegedly made the threats “multiple times” during his tirade. After receiving the complaint, Officers conducted an investigation and quickly apprehended Davies at his home located at 714 9th Ave., Menominee, around 9 a.m.

“If someone threatens death to others, that person needs to be prepared for the consequences,” Rogg said. “I will not tolerate such threats, and I will continue to steadfastly prosecute deplorable acts. I applaud the alleged victims for immediately reporting this outrageous behavior, and I commend my law enforcement partners for promptly gathering the necessary evidence to allow me to bring an appropriate charge so swiftly.”

Davies was arraigned before the Judge Robert J. Jamo in the 95-A District Court on Friday. Jamo established bond at $500,000, cash/surety. Attorney Andrew Jones was appointed to represent Davies. Jamo scheduled a Probable Cause Conference for 10 a.m. July 10 and the Preliminary Examination for 2 p.m. July 25.

Rogg reminds everyone that a criminal charge is merely an allegation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

The Menominee County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Menominee City Police Department and Menominee County Central Dispatch.

Holmes also reminds community members that tips and information related to criminal activity or suspicious behavior may be reported anonymously via the Crime Stoppers of Marinette and Menominee County Facebook page, or through the Crime Stoppers mobile tip app.
