Ryan Reynolds Avoided 'Hot Ones' for Years, Host Says

Stopping by Hot Ones has become a staple in many celebrities' press tours when promoting something new. When Ryan Reynolds was doing press for Deadpool & Wolverine with Hugh Jackman, the Canadian actor ended up on the spicy wing eating show—but only after years of running away from it.

Hot Ones host Sean Evans spoke about last month's episode featuring Reynolds and Jackman in an Aug. 14 appearance on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen .

"I knew it would be good because before the shoot, like an hour or so before the shoot—we shot at this hotel —I'm walking around just looking for a bathroom, take a left, see elevators, whatever, and then all of a sudden behind me I hear, 'I've been avoiding this mother-effer for years.' And I turn around and it's just Ryan Reynolds walking towards me with a big smile on his face," Evans recounted. "From that moment I knew it would be a good episode."

It turns out Deadpool was what got Jackman out of his retirement, which he announced in 2017. During their joint Hot Ones appearance, the Wolverine actor explained how the idea of Deadpool & Wolverine was what got him excited about working again.

"[I knew Deadpool and Wolverine would make a good duo] literally the moment I saw Deadpool 1 . That's when everything came flashing to me," he said, going on to name famous comedy movies featuring duos like 48 Hours and Planes, Trains, and Automobiles . "I was like, 'These two characters have to be together.' And I'd literally announced my retirement three days before."

Needless to say Jackman took back his retirement decision, but it still was a while before they were able to finally make the project. "It took us six years to get there but we got there," Jackman said.
