Decorated dirt track racer and legend in the field Scott Bloomquist has died in a tragic plane crash near his home in Tennessee. He was 60 years old.

Missouri 's Moberly Motorsports Park shared the news on Aug. 16, as the racetrack's owner Reid Millard was good friends with Bloomquist.

"Scott Bloomquist was a great friend of mine along with a lot of people in the Dirt Late Model and racing community. His mother Georgette just called me and wanted me to announce that he lost his life this morning," Millard wrote on Facebook. "At 7:15 EDT this morning Scott was out flying his vintage airplane and had a crash on the Bloomquist family farm. The local fire department and law enforcement are still on the scene."

"Along with Scott's daughter Ariel his parents, his sister, and along with all of you who knew and loved Scott, you are in our hearts and prayers of all our Millard family," he concluded. "Godspeed, Scott. May you fly high on an eagle's wing forever."

According to The Rogersville Review , Bloomquist was flying his plane on his property in Mooresburg, TN early this morning when it crashed into a barn. He was the only one aboard the aircraft.

Bloomquist was highly esteemed in the world of dirt driving. His career spanned four decades and he notched more than 600 wins in his time behind the wheel. That included the 2004 World of Outlaws Late Model Series crown and three Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series titles, his most recent being in 2016. He also competed in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series and the Superstar Racing Experience. He was inducted into the National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame in 2002.

Aside from racing, Bloomquist had his own motorsports store, Scott Bloomquist Racing, in Mooresburg, and he was the owner of Team Zero Race Cars.
