Ex-NFL Star Arrested After Alleged In-Flight Urine Incident

A Delta flight from Boston to Dublin over the weekend ended in the arrest of former NFL offensive tackle Gosder Cherilus.

According to CBS News , Massachusetts State Police were called to Boston Logan Airport around 2 a.m. on Aug. 18 after a Dublin-bound Delta flight turned around and returned to the airport. The authorities said in a statement that the plane came back "because of an unruly passenger who urinated on another passenger on board."

Upon their arrival, they identified the passenger in question as Cherilus. "Troopers verbally commanded Cherilus to leave the plane, but he became irate and uncooperative. Eventually, Troopers escorted Cherilus to the jet bridge and placed him under arrest," police recounted.

Cherilus reportedly appeared drunk when he arrived at the airport and allegedly argued with another passenger about seating arrangements before the plane even took off. Finally, about an hour after departure, he allegedly walked up to an elderly woman, exposed himself, and emptied "his entire bladder for approximately 20 seconds."

The flight crew sprang into action and tried to stop him but he reportedly became combative, according to court documents. He allegedly even hit an elderly man with his hand on the way back to his seat.

When the flight landed back at the airport, they were greeted by authorities as Cherilus was arrested on charges of disorderly conduct and disturbing a flight crew. There's also a federal investigation underway since the incident happened over Canadian waters .

Cherilus was arraigned in Boston on Aug. 19 and released on $2,500 bond. He had no comment for reporters when leaving the courthouse.

The other Dublin-bound passengers were sent on another flight later in the day Aug. 18 after the early-morning debacle.

"Delta has zero tolerance for unlawful behavior and will cooperate with law enforcement to that end," a Delta spokesperson told USA Today in a statement. "We apologize to our customers for the delay in their travel."

On Aug. 19, Cherilus took to social media to explain his side of the story.

"I'd like to address the media reports about me that surfaced today regarding a situation that occurred onboard a flight to Ireland this past weekend. The flight was unexpectedly delayed for approximately four hours, and it did not take off until after 12:30 a.m.," he said. "In preparation for the unexpected overnight flight, I took a sleeping medication that I don't normally use, which resulted in behavior that is not representative of my character, and I would like to apologize to the passengers and flight crew."
