Kiss Cam Proposal Goes Horribly Wrong on Multiple Levels

When it comes to the worst ways to propose to a significant other, it's hardly a secret that popping the question on camera at a crowded sports arena is about as bad as it gets. (Really, any public proposals involving crowds should probably be avoided at all costs.)

Case in point, a Los Angeles Chargers fan decided to propose to his girlfriend on kiss cam during a preseason game against the Rams on Saturday, and it went about as badly as it could possibly go.

In the short clip, posted to X (formerly Twitter) by another fan also in attendance at the game, the woman's beau can be seen excitedly getting down on one knee after realizing they were on camera. But judging from her body language, his girlfriend was decidedly not on board with the gesture, at one point clasping her hand over her mouth and waving her arms at him as if to shut the proposal down.

Just then, another spectator walking down the steps with a tray of nachos and and a drink trips, dousing the poor guy with orange cheese and what appears to be soda, adding insult to injury to the failed proposal.

The video has racked up nearly 2.5 million views since it was posted to Saturday night, but not everyone was exactly convinced of its authenticity. Many commenters weighed in saying that the video was clearly staged. And for what it's worth, it does seem like the third fan intentionally dumped her drink all over the guy.

"Every fake skit like this should cost a team a draft pick. It’s embarrassing," posted one user, while another simply added : "The fakest cringe."

"So dumb," wrote another fan. "Is this how lame the [Los Angeles] sports teams are that they have to make up dumb 'viral' skits? Sad."

However, it seems as though the moment was indeed manufactured for engagement , no pun intended, as a source with apparent knowledge of the situation relayed to The Hollywood Reporter . The so-called "couple" were reportedly portrayed two game presentation assistants who help the team on game day, who are not actors and have full-time jobs.

But in either case, if the stunt stops even one person from attempting a kiss cam proposal, then—real or fake—we can give it a pass.
