MERCED, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – The completion of a new state-of-the-art student center at a Merced City School District school will be celebrated during a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday, the school district announced.

The school district says the new student center spans around 3,500 square feet and that Franklin Elementary’s new Administrative Services building is a state-of-the-art student center equipped to support families. It will serve as the new home for all office personnel, a school nurse, and administrative staff to support students’ needs.

“Our students deserve to learn in the best facilities and environments, and be proud of the school they attend each day,” said Merced City School District’s Superintendent Julianna Stocking. “These improvements are an example of that. Across our district, we are pleased of the strides made thus far, but understand there is more work to be done on behalf of our school communities.”

The new Administrative Services building was constructed in nearly 18 months, according to officials. All upgrades at Franklin Elementary have an estimated cost of $2.6 million utilizing Measure M funds, Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief 1 funds, and funds from the Local Control Accountability Plan.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony will be on July 24 at 9 a.m. in front of the new facility at Franklin Elementary.
