The Meridian Public Works Department reported to the Meridian City Council during its regular meeting on Monday, May 13, that it had ordered a replacement backhoe.

The replacement will be a new John Deere 310 P-Tier backhoe from RDO, the report said.

Public Works Director Gary Rohrer said the city should receive the new backhoe by the first part of June 2024.

Rohrer added that he will be picking up a safe trailer to haul the skid steer from a company over the weekend.

During late March and early April, the public works crew was preparing for the total solar eclipse on Monday, April 8, the report said.

“The grass mowing and weed eating has picked up quite a bit,” the report said. “Basically three people are working every Thursday and Friday, just mowing and weed eating if it's not raining.”

In addition, the city crew has swept the downtown area using the new Kubota, he said.

“April was a good month for the public works,” the report said. “Not much happened as far as major problems or projects.”

The next bulk trash day is scheduled for Saturday, June 15, starting at 8 a.m.

For water or sewer emergencies within the Meridian city limits, call the on-call number at (254) 978-0402.
