PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD/WYZZ) — Nora Johnson had a day on Thursday.

The Metamora junior had three hits and knocked in four runs to lead the visiting Redbirds past Washington, 11-2, in high school softball at Jan Smith Field. Her three-run double off the top the centerfield fence broke open a close game in the top of the fifth inning and gave Metamora a 6-1 lead.

Johnson was also the winning pitcher as she scattered eight hits in improving Metamora’s record to 17-4.

East Peoria and Dunlap also won softball games on Thursday. Normal Community, Morton, Dunlap, Richwoods and U-High were among the baseball winners.

Host Eureka won the girls and boys titles at the Roger Washburn Invitational. The track meet was moved up a day in anticipation of poor weather on Friday.
