POSSIBILITY OF NEW TAX DISCUSSED BY COUNCIL
(Richmond, IN)--During Monday night’s meeting of Richmond Common Council, there was some discussion of tax increment financing – or TIF. Here’s Council member Jerry Purcell talking about what could potentially lie ahead: "There is the opportunity for us - and I know how everyone feels about new taxes - but to approve a public safety tax." And, here’s why: "We're looking at a lot of big projects. The infrastructure is crumbling in our downtown. I think we have to be upfront and honest with the public," Purcell said. A Dayton man faces up to five years in prison for taking a teen girl to a Harrison Twp. motel in April “to have sex with her” instead of giving her a ride home. John Mfitumukiza Baziromwabo, 32, pleaded guilty Monday in Montgomery County Common Pleas Court to abduction, attempt to commit unlawful sexual conduct with a minor and gross sexual imposition, according to plea documents.

Griffin Dean of Bethany Beach was among nearly 4,100 students from Miami University who received degrees during the spring commencement held on May 18.
