Maddalena Named 49er Festival Grand Marshal Ahead Of Olympics
Groveland, CA — Groveland native Sagen Maddalena will compete in three shooting competitions at the Summer Olympic Games in Paris. The opening ceremony kicks things off this evening and the first shooting competitions commence on Saturday. Maddalena, 30, is a sergeant in the US Army Marksmanship Unit. The daughter of Randy and Susan Maddalena, she first became interested in shooting through the local 4-H program. Later she went on to compete with one of the top rifle collegiate programs in the country at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks.

Guardrail Repairs To Cause Delays On O’Byrnes Ferry Road
Starting today (July 25), and continuing through the remainder of the month, a crew will be making needed guardrail improvements on O’Byrnes Ferry Road near Copperopolis. Traffic lanes will be impacted and flaggers will be on the scene, so travelers are urged to use extra caution and to be prepared for delays. The Calaveras Public Works Department notes that the company Midstate Barrier Inc. has been hired to do the work. The work hours will be weekdays from 7 am – 6 pm.

Traffic Delays Anticipated On Tuolumne Road
Sonora, CA — The Tuolumne County Public Works Department road crews will be out striping Tuolumne Road both today (Wednesday) and Thursday. The work hours will be 7 am – 5 pm and one-way traffic control, and delays, are anticipated. The work will take place from Mono Way to Terrace Drive, at the intersection with Woodham Carne Road and Black Oak Road, and in front of Summerville High School.
Homeless woman arrested on suspicion of arson in Tuolumne River Regional Park in Modesto
A woman was taken into custody on suspicion of arson for a fire that occurred on Tuesday night at Tuolumne River Regional Park, according to the Modesto Police Department. Modesto Police and Fire Department responded to the brush fire at around 9:00 p.m. Karleen Keefer, 46, was arrested at the scene with a torch lighter in their possession.
Tuolumne County Awards $1.97 Million For Courthouse Elevator Project
Sonora, CA — The Tuolumne County Board of Supervisors took a step on Tuesday toward utilizing the currently vacant former courthouse building on Yaney Avenue. The supervisors voted 4-1 to approve a $1.97 million contract with local contractor Robert Boyer Construction to install an elevator in the historic building. It is an Americans with Disabilities Act requirement to have one in order to fully utilize the site.
Jamestown Man’s Backpack And Bike Link Him To Burglary
Jamestown, CA – A Jamestown man was arrested after leaving his backpack and bicycle at the scene of the crime. Tuolumne County Sheriff’s deputies recently responded to the area of Jamestown Road near Loadstar Drive after homeowners reported a man attempting to get into their garage. The victim told deputies they woke up to the sound of someone trying to get into their house from the garage. In an attempt to stop them, the victim pounded on the door and heard the suspect, 50-year-old Christopher Richardson, take off.
