It’s no secret Miami has been particularly aggressive recruiting 2026 tight ends this month after hosing four four-star prospects in three weeks. And this past weekend the Hurricanes hosted their biggest 2026 recruit yet this summer.

No. 6 overall prospect and No. 1 2026 tight end Kendre Harrison visited Miami for the first time this past weekend with his mother, Toya Hogue, as the Hurricanes rolled out the red carpet for one final unofficial visit before the summer dead period. Harrison and his mother are already eyeing a return trip to South Florida this fall for the Miami-Florida State game … Harrison is considering both programs.

“Miami was great,” Hogue said. “(The staff discussed) just their style of play and how they would use him as a tight end, developing him at the college level and preparing him to go on to another level. The Miami trip was great.”

Harrison and Hogue also briefly met with Julius Peppers , another former college football and basketball star who once aspired to be a two-sport college athlete. Hogue said they discussed the dedication and commitment it takes to play two sports at the college level, adding Harrison’s uncle played college basketball at NC State and had a strong professional career overseas.

Harrison has visited North Carolina, the closest major program to him, numerous times and will visit Penn State for the Nittany Lions’ White Out game this fall. Tennessee is also on Harrison’s radar, although Hogue said the Hurricanes also gave an impressive academic presentation and emphasized the opportunities they can set Harrison up for on and off the field.

“Their feelings on really (encouraging) athletes to get their degrees and be successful in school, their presentation on all of that, it was really on point,” Hogue said. “It was really encouraging as a parent. Academics is something that I stress because, as we both know, anything can happen, and you need to have a backup plan. So by them really stressing the academic side of things as far as the athletic is really important to me as far as visiting schools, too.”

Hogue said North Carolina will always hold sentimental value to her for personal reasons, but ultimately Harrison’s future will be his decision, and Miami made a strong impression during their weekend trip. Harrison and Hogue spent all of Saturday on campus with the Hurricanes’ coaching staff before leaving Coral Gables Sunday.

Hogue said Miami will be the last school they visit until attending Oregon’s end-of-summer recruiting cookout in late July.

    CaneSport’s Take

We’re still early into the 2026 cycle, but if the Hurricanes can, they’ve made clear they’d like to make a run at the top tight end in next year’s class with their 2025 tight end class locked in.
