Miami, FL - A Miami felon has been arrested after allegedly hiding a gun in a Walmart restroom trash can during a shoplifting incident.

According to police, officers responded to reports of a theft involving several individuals at the Walmart located at 21151 S. Dixie Highway in Miami.

Authorities say the description of a suspect matched Kenneth Cross, who was spotted wearing a white and yellow long-sleeved shirt with gray pants and possibly armed with a gun.

Upon arrival, officers were informed by security that Cross had already been detained.

Security personnel informed officers that they observed Cross taking a gun from another suspected shoplifter and placing it under his arm.

Reports state that upon seeing an officer, Cross entered a restroom, and as a security officer followed, he heard a metallic sound from inside.

The officer located Cross in the restroom and took him into custody without incident.

A subsequent search of the restroom trash can uncovered a Springfield XD black .40 caliber semi-automatic pistol.

Walmart surveillance footage corroborated the witness accounts.

A background check revealed Cross is a convicted felon.

He was arrested on charges of possessing a firearm as a convicted felon, tampering with physical evidence, and openly carrying a weapon.

Cross is being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a $2,650 bond.
