We are less than a week away from the highly anticipated release of EA Sports College Football 25. Ahead of the game release, EA Sports revealed some of the top overall teams, offenses, and defenses, which saw Miami crack the list in two out of three categories.

In the first EA Sports team Power Ranking,  Miami landed at No. 13 with an 88 overall team rating after finishing last season with a 7-6 record. Penn State, Utah, defending national champions Michigan, Florida State, Texas A&M, and Ole Miss all share the 88 overall rating with the Canes.

This offseason, the Hurricanes were extremely active in the transfer portal, landing players such as Cam Ward , Damien Martinez , Sam Brown , and Zach Carpenter on the offensive side of the ball.

Those additions, along with the return of players such as Xavier Restrepo , Jacolby George , Mark Fletcher , Anez Cooper , and Francis Mauigoa , have many people around the country excited about Miami’s offense this upcoming fall, including EA Sports, which ranked the group the No. 7 offense in its Power Rankings with an 89 overall rating.

Last season, under Shannon Dawson , the Hurricanes averaged 31.5 points and 409 yards per game.

Here’s what On3’s Nick Kosko had to say about the Canes Power Rankings rating : “Here’s another top offense to use with a dual-threat quarterback as Cam Ward can certainly be a weapon in real and virtual life. Zach Carpenter transferred in to solidify the offensive line at center. Samuel Brown is a noteworthy transfer wide receiver as well, so you’ll have options. But still, this offense runs through Ward, and that should be fun.”

While Miami’s offense was among the top 10, the Canes’ defense did not receive nearly as much love after being left out of the top 25.

With EA Sports only releasing the overall rankings of those 25 programs, we will not know the ranking of Miami defensive coordinator Lance Guidry’s unit until the release of the game later this July. In Guidry’s first season with the Canes, his defense was one of the best run-stopping units in the country, allowing just 105.6 yards per game and 321.6 total yards per game, which was the 24th lowest in the country.

Like the Canes’ offense, the Hurricanes added multiple players via the transfer portal, such as Mishael Powell , Tyler Barron , Simeon Barrow , Jaylin Alderman , and more. With the No. 25 spot on the list belonging to the Florida Gators with an 84 overall rating, it will be interesting to see where Miami stands in the virtual world.

EA SPORTS College Football 25’s July 19 release date is quickly approaching and will feature a host of athletes through an NIL opt-in program. Athletes received notification if they were in or out of the game, On3’s Pete Nakos reported, after more than 14,000 opted in.
