Peter Navarro finishes prison sentence for defying Jan. 6 congressional subpoena and heads straight to RNC for book signing

Former Trump White House trade adviser Peter Navarro has completed his four-month prison sentence for contempt of Congress and was released from a correctional facility in Miami, Florida, on Wednesday.

As Law&Crime reported on Monday, now that he is out of prison, Navarro is expected to attend the Republican National Convention where, according to a master calendar for the event, he has a book signing between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. on Thursday.

Navarro was convicted in January for flouting a subpoena from congressional investigators probing the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol.

Navarro, who is appealing his conviction, fought for weeks to keep himself out of prison as he appealed. He made two direct pleas to the U.S. Supreme Court, one each to Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Neil Gorsuch, but he was ultimately unable to avoid his fate.

Steve Bannon, Navarro’s admitted co-orchestrator in a plan to contest electoral ballots in the 2020 election, was also convicted of contempt of Congress and sentenced to serve fourth months in prison.

As Law&Crime reported, Bannon reported to jail on July 1 after two years of delaying his fate with a long slog of appeals challenging his conviction. Like Navarro, Bannon will be released at a fortuitous time for Trump: Bannon is expected to finish his sentence just a matter of days before the presidential election in November.

CNN reported Wednesday that Navarro’s prison consultant Sam Mangel said Navarro had a “chance to write” while in prison and that he worked as a law library clerk.
