Miami Dolphins defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah.

The Dolphins thought they were making a splash move on defense when they signed two-time Pro Bowl edge-rusher Shaquil Barrett in March, but that was short-lived after he decided to retire last weekend.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Barrett informed Miami that he wants to spend more time with his family after 10 years in the NFL during which he won two Super Bowls.

The Dolphins had to move quickly to fill the position they once felt good about heading into the 2024 season. That's exactly what they did on Tuesday, reuniting with edge-rusher Emmanuel Ogbah following his and edge-rusher Yannick Ngakoue's workouts for the team on Monday.

Ogbah has played for Miami for the past four years and has been productive, registering 114 tackles, 24 sacks, five forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, one interception and 19 passes defensed. However, the Dolphins decided to release him in a cap-saving move in February.

He now rejoins the team on a one-year deal worth up to $5 million after reportedly drawing interest from other teams around the NFL such as the Kansas City Chiefs, whom he won a Super Bowl with in 2019.

Miami is hoping there is no bad blood and that Ogbah can pick up right where he left off with major questions in the linebacker room.

Linebackers Bradley Chubb, Jaelan Phillips and Cameron Goode are all starting the season on the PUP list while 2024 first-round pick Chop Robinson is just a rookie.

Ogbah will add some much-needed depth and experience to the room while the Dolphins wait for Chubb, Phillips and Goode to be cleared to return to action.

Miami also has a change at defensive coordinator in Anthony Weaver, but he could provide a better fit and more opportunities for Ogbah, who has something to prove entering his ninth season in the league.
