Miami Dolphins' Tyreek Hill makes an extremely honest confession on prior goal that will only help the team

It looks like Tyreek Hill doesn't have his sights set on going where no NFL player has ever gone before.  Or at least that's the position he's putting forth publicly.

Hill was asked during his press conference on Wednesday if his goal in 2024 was the same as he stated before the 2023 season - 2000 receiving yards.  Hill responded that it indeed is not his focus this season and that such a focus last year was "selfish".

"I will say for me, man, last year is last year," Hill said. "Obviously it was great for me to come out and say XYZ. I want to get 2K.  You want to do this and that.  That'd be great. Grand scenario, that'd be great. But at the same time, I have to understand the position I'm in, and me being one of the leaders and just singling out an individual goal like that. I had time to go look at it and talk about it with my family.

"That was very selfish of me. Here moving forward, individual goal I've been talking about this whole entire offseason with my teammates, with my family, is I would want us to, A, win a playoff game.  I would love that.  We're going to start with that.  hen, moving forward, continuing to build on that, we're going to move to the Super Bowl.

"So, it's one step at a time. If I'm able to help this team do something special as a team goal, I would definitely count that as an individual goal as my own. And that'll feel good. That'll be something that I can live with for the rest of my life. That'd be great."

When asked as a follow up if that meant 2000 yards was off the table, Hill laughed and expanded upon his prior point.

"I didn't say it was off the table now (laughing). I understand how the season goes.  Teams prepare for us, prepare to take me out of games, they prepare to take [Jaylen] Waddle out of games. So, there could be situations where I have good games. There could be situations where I have bad games. Let's not scratch off the 2K yet, alright? If it comes, it comes."

Hill seems to have a different outlook on the season, one that shows a more mature player. There's little doubt that the gut-wrenching end of the 2023 season that saw the Dolphins blow a three-game lead in the AFC East with five weeks left to the Buffalo Bills in the regular season's final game . Miami followed that up with a whimper in a 26-7 loss to Kansas City in sub-zero temperatures in the playoffs.

And Hill is right.  Surely there will be some weeks where teams have more capable rosters and/or defensive systems to keep Hill and/or Waddle more in check.  It's not about forcing the ball to either of Miami's highly paid wideouts but rather finding other ways to win.

And that last word it seems is what matters most to Hill.  Although if Hill could have his cake and eat it to by reaching 2000, he certainly wouldn't mind it.
