Miami (Fla.) Ransom Everglades 2028 quarterback Niemann Lawrence may only be entering his freshman year of high school this fall, but that has not stopped several Power 4 programs from offering the elite gunslinger, including the Miami Hurricanes.

Last summer the Canes became the first program to offer the eighth grader, who has since earned offers from Ohio State, Florida State, Arkansas, TCU, UCF and West Virginia. This upcoming weekend Miami will host Lawrence, who will be one of the few, if not only 2028 prospect on hand at the Canes’ end-of-summer cookout.

“It feels great to be able to get back around the coaches and be able to continue to build that relationship,” Lawrence told CaneSport. “It was great getting my first offer from Miami because, growing up with my family, we loved them and were Canes fans. Being a kid from the hometown and them recognizing my talents was truly a blessing.”

The 6-foot-2, 180-pounder says receiving that offer from the Canes will be a moment he never forgets.

“At the moment, I couldn’t believe it because I was just going into my eighth-grade year,” Lawrence said. “I was hearing a lot about just going out there and competing because I’m really young and it might not happen this early. Just getting that opportunity and offer was shocking.”

When asked about the local program, Lawrence has nothing but high praise for what third-year head coach Mario Cristobal and his staff are doing down in Coral Gables.

“I think they’re doing something great, and they’re trying to rebuild,” Lawrence said. “Back to what the Canes used to be with guys like Ray Lewis and Ed Reed. Really just trying to get back to that winning culture.”

This past year Lawrence threw for 2,657 yards and 37 touchdowns to just four interceptions as an eighth grader playing on the varsity level. That earned him an invite to the Elite 11 Academy, where he was recognized as one of the top young quarterbacks in the country.

“It’s really a blessing, but I’m focused on trying to keep a level head and remain humble,” Lawrence said. “Just as quickly as it came, it can be snatched away from me.”

Although it may be extremely early in his recruiting process, Lawrence knows what he’ll be focusing on when looking at each program over the next four years.

“I know a lot can change in four years, so I’m looking at the relationship I’m going to build with coaches,” Lawrence said. “As well as the quarterbacks that they have helped build and develop.”

    CaneSport’s take

Lawrence has been making a name for himself in the South Florida youth football scene for some years now, and that has begun to spread nationwide. The incoming freshman looks the part and has the skills that have attracted some of the biggest programs in the college football world.
