Five Olympic athletes trained under Miami Northwestern coach

Three Miami Northwestern High graduates are competing in track and field events in the Paris Olympics.

The intrigue: They're competing in different events — one is representing a different country — but they all have one thing in common: They were trained under Northwestern track and field coach Carmen Jackson.

Between the lines: Aaliyah Butler and Twanisha "TeeTee" Terry, who are representing the United States, are racing in the 400 and 100 meters, respectively. Lloydricia Cameron, who's representing Jamaica, in shot put.

Flashback: Jackson joined the school as an assistant coach in 1980 and became head coach in 1991, per the outlet.

    • Jackson set a record for most consecutive track championships from 2009-2023 with 14, according to the Herald.

What they're saying: Other coaches told the Herald last year that Jackson focuses on things other than track, too, such as ensuring the athletes are good students, eating well, sleeping well and "making good decisions."

Bottom line: The longtime coach has no plans to retire, despite her lengthy and successful career.

    • "What keeps me motivated is my kids," Jackson told the Herald. "Can they make it? Can I get them to change their mindset? I want to mold them [into] positive adults."
