The Miami Dolphins have revamped their linebacker corps with some key veteran acquisitions this offseason .  It looks like they might not be doing strengthening the position with someone very familiar with the region.

Former Jacksonville Jaguars linebacker Shaq Quarterback is working out for the Dolphins on Friday, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.

As many South Florida fans likely know, Quarterman was a standout for the Miami Hurricanes during his college days.  He starred alongside Zach McCloud and Michael Pinckney in the Hurricanes' linebacking corps as Miami had its most productive season over the last two decades in 2017, winning 10 games, a program-best #2 ranking in the College Football Playoff poll and earning a trip to the Orange Bowl.

After Miami, he was drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft.  Quarterman's calling card with the Jaguars was on special teams, where he's played primarily over his first four seasons in the league.  However, Quarterman was solid there, totaling 54 total tackles over 63 games over his career so far.

Over the last two seasons, Quarterman has played almost exclusively on special teams, logging just 30 defensive snaps in 2022 and 2023.  He saw a career-high 144 defensive snaps in 2021.

Miami is in good shape with its starters in David Long, Jr. and Jordyn Brooks .  Anthony Walker, Jr. is also a very experienced and capable reserve.  But as Miami has seen over the last two seasons, particularly late last year , injuries are crippling, and you can never have too much depth.

We'll find out soon enough if Quarterman will get the chance to play games again at Hard Rock Stadium for a team representing the 305.
