The four major recruiting databases have yet to rank 2027 prospects, but Montezuma (Ga.) Macon County running back Jakeyveon Parker is already emerging as one of the early potential stars in his cycle. And Miami has noticed.

The Hurricanes became the seventh program to offer the fast-rising 5-foot-10, 200-pound incoming sophomore in late July. Miami joins Ole Miss, Tennessee, Arkansas and NC State as Power conference programs to offer Parker as he continues to gain interest from different programs, although he added he’s plenty intrigued by the Hurricanes.

“I was very excited. Very, very excited,” Parker said. “Miami, that’s a big school, and I was just so happy because I didn’t expect it when I got it right after practice. I just thank God, man. That was a blessing. I’m very interested in Miami. That’s a good school, man. I haven’t been there a bunch, but I’ve watched the games (on TV), and they’re a good program. I like the fan base. The fan base is really great.”

Parker said he hopes to visit Miami at some point and build a relationship with the Hurricanes’ coaching staff beyond the limited interactions he’s had thus far. He said he also wants to get a feel for Miami’s locker room culture and how Hurricane players get along.

Parker has also been in contact with Florida State and Auburn but is yet to receive offers from the two programs. He camped at Georgia and Auburn earlier this summer.

“I’m looking for good player and coach connections,” Parker said. “I really want to have a good bond with (the coaching staff) outside of football. How the coaches bond with their players bond with their players outside of football. I’m looking for team connection and team bonding, how everyone works together as a team.”

He added he has interest in schools like Ole Miss and Tennessee due to their developmental records and abilities to either get running backs signed or drafted. He said player development will play a significant role as he begins evaluating schools — and potentially visiting programs for home games this fall.

    CaneSport’s Take

Miami’s running back evaluation has been pretty solid since head coach Mario Cristobal arrived in Coral Gables in late 2021, so we’ll keep our eyes on Parker as he continues to develop.
