The Atlanta Braves are now winners of six of their last seven games after a late inning comeback to defeat the Miami Marlins 5-3 on Friday evening.

Here is what you need to know from Friday's contest.

Schwellenbach Had Grit on the Mound Tonight

It was a tough beginning of the game for the rookie pitcher in just his eleventh MLB start, but Spencer Schwellenbach battled back to keep the game within reach for the Braves offense. His outing allowed two home runs to get things going, a two run shot in the first to Jonah Bride and a solo shot by Jake Burger in the third.

The young right hander persevered, however, and found himself going seven innings for the Braves and striking out ten for the second consecutive game before his evening was over. This included some revenge as he recorded multiple strikeouts to Bride and Burger after the homers.

He finished the day with three runs allowed on six hits across seven innings of work. He struck out ten and did not walk a batter. He had 17 whiffs and an impressive 35% CSW.

History was also made on Friday night at Truist Park as Schwellenbach is the first pitcher in the modern era in MLB to record 70 strikeouts and 10 or fewer walks in his first 11 career appearances. A pretty spectacular feat.

Great Time for Hit Number One

With the Braves trailing heading into the bottom of the eighth inning, Jorge Soler , the team's leadoff batter since being traded back to Atlanta at the deadline took advantage of the bottom of the lineup doing its job. Soler picked up his first hit since returning to the Braves and it was a big one. His RBI single brought in Jarred Kelenic to tie the game.

Soler lit a spark for the Braves offense as the eighth inning rally continued with a double off the outfield wall by Austin Riley and a sacrifice fly by Marcell Ozuna that took the lead after trailing early 3-0. Atlanta picked up another insurance run before the inning was over by no other than Orlando Arcia .

    Arcia's Aura Continues to Beam

I bet you didn't have Orlando Arcia as the team's hottest hitter to begin the month of August, did you? For the second straight game, the Braves shortstop sent one deep recording his 11th homer of the season.

He wasn't done there, as he added the final run for insurance in a three run rally by the team in the bottom of the eighth inning. Arcia has now extended his hitting streak to 13 games and is hitting .347/.418/.612 over his last 15.

    What's Next

Atlanta is now 5.5 games behind the Philadelphia Phillies before their late game at Seattle tonight. They have made great ground on the NL East lead, as the  Braves trailed the Phillies by 9.5 games on Saturday.

The Atlanta Braves will be back in action with the Miami Marlins for game three of the long weekend series on Saturday. The first pitch at Truist Park is scheduled for 7:20 PM EST.
