Joel Klatt Sets Ridiculously High Bar For Miami, Mario Cristobal in 2024

The Miami Hurricanes have a loaded roster but very little margin for error in the regular season, according to college football analyst Joel Klatt.

When breaking down his preseason top-25 college football rankings on his YouTube channel the other day, he ranked the Hurricanes rather high and expressed optimism in their combination of roster and schedule.

"Miami's schedule, it's built for them to be right in the mix in the ACC and potentially the playoff," Klatt said.

With a friendly slate in Klatt's eyes, he has some incredible expectations for Mario Cristobal this regular season.

"This is a schedule that they should be 11-1 in," said Klatt. "If it's 10-2, I think it's disappointing. You heard me right."

Even two losses would register as underwhelming for Klatt, despite that Miami went 7-6 last season, has a second-year head coach and has won 10 games in a season just once in the last 20 years. But he's ready to see some results.

"I'm all in for Miami here right now," Klatt said. "Mario Cristobal has got to prove that he can be a quality in-game coach and execute for wins. That has to happen and it has to happen right now. With this roster and this schedule, this is an 11-1 team all day long, and that's giving them a loss in a game that they probably shouldn't lose."

He continued, pointing out why the Miami schedule plays out so well for the 'Canes.

"They open in the Swamp, that's not a very good Florida team. They get Virginia Tech at home at the end of September in a Friday night game. They go to Louisville in October and they get Florida State at home in October."

With those being Miami's toughest challenges, Joel Klatt says there's no reason for them to drop more than one game.

"10-2, I think, is underachieving," he said. "10-2, they don't go to the playoff with the schedule that they have. 11-1 and winning the ACC, you're in the College Football Playoff."

With 11-1 expectations from Klatt, he rated Miami pretty darn high up in his preseason rankings, all things considered. Take a look at it here:
