MIAMI, OK — Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College hosted a football combine Friday afternoon for local high school athletes and collegiate athletes looking to transfer.

Similar to the well-known NFL Scouting Combine, participating athletes were put through rigorous testing ranging from shuttle drills to the 40-yard dash.

With nearly the entire NEO A&M coaching staff in attendance, the combine provided athletes the opportunity to showcase their talents and potentially earn a spot on the Norsemen’s roster for the 2024 season.

NEO A&M offensive coordinator Brandon Niccum believes these types of combines are vital for the success of JUCO programs.

“You know in today’s recruiting age it’s a little easier with the internet, but you got some guys that sometimes are better than their film shows,” Niccum said. “They come out here and have the opportunity to show us what they got and develop here. I think that’s something we do really well here is develop.”

After an 0-8 season in 2023, the Norsemen will certainly be looking to turn things around this upcoming season with a new batch of players.

Rather than seeking out star players deep into their recruiting journey, the Norsemen focus on development and finding players that could contribute to the success of the program with the right coaching.

“Football is a crazy sport, they come in all shapes and sizes, and we’re just looking for guys that genuinely are passionate about football and have the ability to grow into something maybe they’re not right now,” Niccum said.
