Tampa (Fla.) Carrollwood Day four-star prospect DJ Williams is far too early in his recruiting process to have an idea where he could end up. But after his second visit to Miami late last month, he views the Canes as a true contender.

Williams, who is listed as a receiver in the On3 Industry Ranking but is being recruited by Miami as a cornerback, also attended Miami’s spring game in April and has been in contact with secondary coach Chevis Jackson since coaches became permitted to directly call and text 2026 prospects in mid-June. Williams said he liked what he saw at Miami in late July and is continuing to build his relationships with Jackson and other members of Miami’s staff.

Williams is currently listed as the No. 319 overall prospect in the On3 Industry Ranking.

“Man, I really really love it, I’m not going to lie,” Williams said. “It’s definitely a lot of what I’ve heard from other people, and it’s definitely just a great environment. Just seeing the coaches and how they teach their players, it was just great and eye-opening.”

Miami established contact with Williams this spring and picked up contact this summer. Williams said Jackson reached out to him shortly after landing his currently position at Miami and told Williams he wanted to personally extend his offer. Williams said Jackson has also told him he wants to “build a great relationship” between the two.

Williams said his visit experience only boosted his interest in Miami.

“Just seeing the great tradition and the culture, really just learning a lot more about it, it’s really just been great,” Williams said. “I’m not really from (the Miami area), so I don’t really go out, so learning about new, different experiences has been great.”

Williams has already landed more than 20 offers and has been in contact with Louisville, USF, Oklahoma and North Carolina , he said, and does not feel he needs to stay in-state to play college ball. However, Miami piqued his interest during his visit.

“I’ve already been through the (recruiting) process with my brothers, just going from place to place with them, and it’s really eye-opening,” Williams said. “Being in Florida, I don’t really mind, but I want to see everything first and foremost so I can have a great feel for (my options) and where I can live for the next three or four years. It doesn’t really matter to me.”

Williams hopes to return to Miami this fall for a game along with 2026 four-star Carrollwood running back Javari Barnett , who he attended Miami’s recruiting cookout with. He also visited Georgia, Florida and Notre Dame this spring.

    CaneSport’s Take

Miami is obviously going all-in on its secondary in the 2025 class, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t plenty of quality cornerback targets in the 2026 class too.
