CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A Charleston-based indoor playground has permanently closed its doors.

Kidaroo's, located along MacCorkle Avenue just off the Patrick Street Bridge on the city's West Side, announced its closure on social media on Tuesday.

"Kidaroo's could not meet the overhead obligations on current revenue intake," a company representative posted on Facebook.

The post said the business "will be closing [its] doors today, July 23, 2024."

The Charleston play place, which opened in 2017 under a different name, was known for its indoor playground and arcade. It housed a cafe and a separate toddler area and was a favorite host for children's birthday parties and other child-centered celebrations.

"Kidaroo's will hold in their hearts the memories of the children's smiles as they celebrated first birthdays, field trips, and special occasions," a Kidaroo's representative wrote.

The site of Kidaroos, located at 1418 MacCorkle Ave., S.W., formerly housed the well-known Sport Mart Superstore. That business closed in 2014 after 84 years.

"Kidaroo's would like to thank the community, and the tri-state area, for all the support over the years," a company representative said Tuesday.
