This story has more plot twists than an M. Night Shyamalan movie. Last week, a Michigan man named Corey Harris went mega-viral after calling into a court hearing via Zoom while driving . The only problem was, he was in a hearing on a charge of driving while his license was suspended. Yeah, wasn't the best look at the time. The judge was dumbfounded, and ordered Harris to immediately turn himself in on the charge. https://twitter.com/Phil_Lewis_/status/1795885963551404339 But earlier this week, Harris was seemingly vindicated when it was revealed that the only reason his license was suspended was because of a
clerical error that kept his license from being reinstated when it was supposed to have been years ago. Harris was meant to get his license suspension lifted all the way back in 2022. But the paperwork was never filed by an employee of the court, the suspension remained on his record, and Harris went viral when, presumably, he thought his license wasn't suspended to begin with. But now we've got yet another plot twist: Turns out, Harris NEVER HAD A LICENSE TO BEGIN WITH. The viral defendant was back in court today, where judge Cedric Simpson revealed that Harris has never had a drivers license, in Michigan or in any other state. "He has never had a license. Ever. And has never had a license in any of the other 49 states or commonwealths that make up this country."
Simpson explained that the previous suspension wasn't of Harris' license - which he didn't have - but of his driving privileges should he try to obtain a license.

"When they suspended his license…they don't suspend the license, they suspend the privilege to drive in the state. Hence, if he had a Kentucky license, he would have been allowed to drive anywhere that Kentucky allowed him to drive, he just couldn't drive in Michigan because his privileges have been restricted."

It turns out, Harris only had a state ID - and in Michigan, you can't have both a drivers license and a state ID. According to Judge Simpson, Harris renewed his state ID in December 2023, so he should have known that he didn't have a license:

"The way I know that he's never had a license is because - on May 3, 1999 he was 19 at the time - he applied for his first Michigan ID. He has religiously, every year, gotten a new ID. And so he knows that he doesn’t have a license."

After the hearing, even Harris' own attorney admitted that she was shocked to find out that her client has never had a drivers license:

"I can't go into his mind and what he's thinking all I can tell you was what I focused on was like what he's going to do to get his license and that's where I was when he was going to do this license. I hadn't done any research to go back. I didn't go back to 1999 to see about this Michigan State ID. All that was shocking to me. Absolutely shocking,"

This is the story that just keeps giving.
