New, bilingual health resources about influenza A will be available for seasonal workers, according to a release from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS).

The MDHHS reported two cases of influenza A , commonly known as bird flu, in dairy workers this year, so the new resources, including releases and a hotline, will assist people potentially impacted. Bird flu has been circulating in dairy and poultry farms across the U.S. this spring.

“MDHHS is proactively providing resources about health topics like influenza A (H5N1) for seasonal farmworkers in Michigan to ensure the health of all residents,” MDHHS Director Elizabeth Hertel said in the release.

The hotline, which started in February 2023, is available in English, Spanish and Haitian-Creole. Additional phone calls are available for translation in languages other than English and Spanish. Two-thirds of seasonal farmworkers in Michigan only speak Spanish.
