FARMINGTON HILLS (WWJ) The law firm, Michigan Auto Law, has released a list of the Top 20 “Most Dangerous Intersections” in the state.
According to the release from Michigan Auto Law , their attorneys make the determinations by collecting and analyzing data from State Police of the number of crashes that occurred at each intersection throughout the previous year.
Macomb County is home to the “Most Dangerous Intersection”: 11 Mile/I 696 at Van Dyke Avenue, in Warren at the Center Line border, with a total of 218 crashes in 2023 and 52 injuries. According to the data, crashes at that intersection have increased nearly 70% in the past five years.
The second “Most Dangerous Intersection” is in Oakland County: Martin Parkway/North Pontiac Trail, in Commerce Township, with 160 crashes last year and 11 injuries. The data showed that crashes at the intersection were up over 25% from 2022.
The intersections spread across five Michigan counties, and all but two of the are located in Metro Detroit. Wayne and Macomb counties have the most, at six apiece. Oakland has five; Washtenaw, one; and Kent County, two.
Three of the Top Five are roundabouts (with a total of five roundabouts on the list).
Michigan Auto Law said they compile the list so drivers can be “informed", and either use extra caution while crossing the intersections or choose an alternate route.They have started a public safety campaign to place billboards around the intersections that they flag year after year.

The total number of crashes increased 68.9% over the last 5 years, jumping from 129 in 2019 to 218 in 2023.
2. **MARTIN PKWY @ N PONTIAC TRL , Commerce Twp, 160 Total Crashes, 11 Injuries (Roundabout)
Total crashes increased by 26.9% between 2022 to 2023, increasing from 126 to 160, moving this intersection up from its third-place position in 2022.
3. **SCHOOLCRAFT RD @ TELEGRAPH RD , Redford Twp, 154 Total Crashes, 47 Injuries
Total crashes from 2022 to 2023 increased by 22% from 126 to 154 with the highest number of injuries reported during the last five years.
4. **18 1/2 MILE RD @ VAN DYKE AVE , Sterling Heights, 135 Total Crashes, 9 Injuries (Roundabout)
Total crashes in 2023 are down 41% from 229 in 2019, when this crossroad was #1 on the list of Michigan’s Top 20 Most Dangerous Intersections.
5. ORCHARD LAKE RD @ 14 MILE RD , Farmington Hills, 132 Total Crashes, 12 Injuries (Roundabout)
Total crashes more than doubled in 2023, jumping from 64 in 2022 to 132 in 2023.
