In the fall of 2022, shortly after taking office as Councilman for much of the Middle River area, I joined other community leaders at the groundbreaking for the Middle River Recreation Activity Center.

On Wednesday, August 7 at 10:30 a.m., we will "cut the ribbon" for the RAC (recreation activity center) alongside Glenmar Elementary School, located at 9700 Community Drive.

This will be an exciting day.

The 15,000-square-foot center will offer a full-sized gymnasium, multipurpose room and four multi-use activity rooms. It will offer opportunities for people of all ages, but I am particularly happy that it will provide a venue for children in this area.

The center is located near the intersection of the fifth district and the sixth district, represented by my colleague Councilman Mike Ertel.

In addition to the Olszewski administration, our state legislators, and Councilman Ertel, I would like to acknowledge the hard work and tenacity of my colleague Cathy Bevins.

She fought for the construction of this resource in Middle River. The $10.2 million project is funded by a $500,000 state aid grant, $1.7 million from Project Open Space and $8 million from Baltimore County.

The center has an aeronautical theme that highlights the aviation history of Middle River. A broader appreciation of our heritage, along with the recreation opportunities offered here, will be a positive boost for Middle River as we seek to improve our quality of life and offer amenities for those of all ages.

Please join us on August 7.
