Update: Heat advisory affecting Somerset and Middlesex counties until Saturday evening
On Friday at 3:31 p.m. an updated heat advisory was issued by the National Weather Service in effect until Saturday at 8 p.m. for Somerset and Middlesex counties. "Heat index values ranging from 100 to 104," adds the weather service. "Very warm and humid conditions tonight will offer little relief from the heat."

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ - Authorities have arrested and charged a Bridgeton man in connection to a fatal accident on Route 1 in April, according to the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office. Joseph Vega, age 43, was arrested by authorities in Georgia for causing the accident which resulted in the death of three people. The crash occurred on Friday, April 12. MIDDLESEX COUNTY, NJ -- Sentencing of John Denuto, a former special education teacher at the Sayreville Middle School and former wrestling coach at numerous other schools and organizations is scheduled for next week. Denuto, 46, of Spotswood pleaded guilty to Endangering the Welfare of a Child and other offenses on April 14, 2023. Denuto was originally scheduled to be sentenced by the Honorable Benjamin S. Bucca, J.S.C., on Sept. 8, 2023, but there have been several legal delays. Prosecutors said Denuto exploited his position as both a teacher and a wrestling coach to meet and abuse his victims. Perth Amboy man charged with murdering his 80-year-old grandmother
PERTH AMBOY – A city man has been charged with killing his 80-year-old grandmother. Raymond Maldonado was arrested without incident and charged with first-degree murder and fourth-degree contempt for violating a restraining order, the Middlesex County’s Prosecutor’s Office announced. Maldonado was being held at the Middlesex County Adult Correctional Center pending a detention hearing.
