A Middletown man is behind bars after allegedly leading police on a chase through Ogletown and then breaking into a house in Brookside, authorities said.

The incident began just before 2:30 p.m. Sunday when a state trooper was assisting a disabled motorist near the intersection of Salem Church Road and Chestnut Hill Road. The trooper saw a black Mazda run a red light and attempted to pull over the car.

The driver sped away and led troopers on a chase. He drove recklessly through several streets, and troopers ultimately called off the pursuit for safety reasons, police said.

A short time later, troopers located the Mazda in the driveway of a house on Montrose Drive in Brookside. The resident of the house told troopers that the driver had broken into the house and was hiding in the bathroom.

The driver, 24-year-old Jacob Singleton, was arrested after a brief struggle in the bathroom. He caused injuries to one trooper, who was taken to a hospital for treatment, police said.

Singleton was charged with second-degree assault on a law enforcement officer, reckless endangering, burglary, resisting arrest, disregarding a police officer's signal and multiple traffic violations.
