Middletown police have launched an investigation after human remains were found in a trash can Monday.

Officers were sent around 11 a.m. to the area in the rear of 1005 Centennial St. and 1020 Yankee Road for a possible dead body, according to a police incident report.

When they arrived, they met two women on scene. Both had just called 911 in reference to the human remains, which they reportedly found in a large brown Rumpke trash can.

The Butler County Coroner's Office confirmed with The Enquirer on Wednesday an investigation into the remains is underway.

The two women later told officers they had been checking the area for any evidence regarding the recent disappearance of Asiah Slone, according to the incident report. Slone, 35, has been missing since June 6 .

Recordings of 911 calls were obtained by The Enquirer on Wednesday.

"I think I know where my sister's body is at," one of the women told a 911 dispatcher. She said she needed to talk to a detective as soon as possible on a case they had been working on together.

The second woman also called 911 and described the scene. She said she was checking the area behind a home at 1020 Yankee Road – the last known address where Slone was – and found a trash can in an alley hidden in some bushes. When she opened it, she found a skull.

"I do not know if it's a real skull," she told dispatchers.

No arrests have been made in connection with the incident.
