MPD warns residents of scam calls involving Warrant Services’ actual number

MIDLAND, Texas (KMID/KPEJ)- The Midland Police Department reported that a potential scam call involving the warrant services phone number is circulating in the area.

According to officials, the scam involves the Warrant Services actual number. “We wanted to let the public know that we think someone is using our main phone number at Warrant Services for scamming people,” said Tate Owen, Midland County Public Information Officer.

According to official reports, there have been two people who reported the scam calls. Warrant services stated that the callers claimed that the person had a warrant and needed to contact “Officer Green.”

“We have received at least two phone calls from people stating that they received a phone call stating that they have warrants, and need to contact Officer Green. We don’t have an Officer Green that works for our office,” said Owen.

Officials stated that the callers have been “misled into believing they are in legal trouble and need to take urgent action.” Warrant Services said that it “wishes to assure the public that these calls are not originating from our organization and are likely part of a scam targeting unsuspecting individuals.”

“We take the issue of scamming very seriously,” continued Owen, “Our priority is the safety and trust of our community. We urge anyone who receives such a call to verify the authenticity of the information before taking any action.”
